Nowadays mushrooms with hallucinogenic properties are well known amongst the general public. But nearly fifty years ago these mushrooms were completely unknown to western society. There were even no scientific reports about them.
It was in 1955, because of research and an article in Life Magazine from the American R. Gordon Wasson, when the general public was introduced to these amazing mushrooms. The local people in Mexico were already aware of the powers of the mushrooms for several hundreds, probably thousands of years, which they called "Teonanacatl".
Since this discovery the psilocybin mushroom gained fame in a very short period. Of course this is because of the mushroom itself, but without the work and research of a lot of people we would not know about this mushroom at all.
